Paul Wearing

Paul makes handbuilt stoneware sculptural vessels, the surfaces of which are rendered with multiple brushed layers of oxidised slips and glazes in order to attain depth of surface. Texture is achieved through the inclusion of volatile materials such as silicon carbide and magnesium carbonate which disrupt the order of his brushwork by blistering and cracking action. His focus is on connecting emotion with landscape through abstraction.
